We were very excited when we found this product. When we installed it we noticed that the box is not receiving any image. apparently HDMI is not workiing well. We tried contact by the web page but there is no information, and the product does not come with instructions. Very bad purchase.
Other than the remote has a lot of tiny buttons, the unit works great and the picture quality is wonderful. Happy SuperBowl everyone!
I recently stopped watching cable TV and switched all of my television sets to Antenna TV. The Mediasonic Homeworx HW130STB Digital Converter Box made the transition very easy. If you follow the instructions exactly as written, you will have no problem installing the converter box. The picture and audio are very good quality, and I am able to watch several of the same channels that I had with cable.
This is a basic TV tuner/recorder for getting over-the-air broadcasts. Nothing special about it. I don't think it even has DOLBY surround audio, but it has a fine HD picture and you can record using an external drive. In our area near Kennewick, WA, I can pick up about 30 off-air channels with an indoor antenna. If I put up an outdoor antenna, I could get about 50 channel, but most are not worth the effort. The box has an HDMI output and COMPONENT outputs for HD and NTCS standard video and audio. It's cheap and works. This is the 3rd one of these I've purchased. Each one seems to last about 3 or 4 years, then for some reason, just stops working. Not a big deal in my mind for a $40 tuner that records.
We really like it. Sets up easy and we see our free channels clearly.
Great product at a great price. I'm saving over 100$ per month by cutting the cable ball and chain with a one time purchase of ~30$. The owners manual is 24 pages long and includes instillation instructions as well as how to use the remote control efficiently. Most everything about the set up and use was intuitive. The manual was super helpful for the few things I didnt get right away. My biggest complaint is the error/information windows that pop up on screen are white text on light blue background. I have to be sitting near the screen or put my glasses on to see what they say. (Pretty small complaint!!).The box itself has a tiny footprint.I bought a thumb drive and formatted it. I've tried all the features including recording a program while I was away from home. Worked great. When getting into playback mode from my thumb drive I have to be patient. It takes 10 or 15 seconds to pull up the recording while there is a pop up that lets me know "it's working on it".I have experience with a different brand of converter box/recorder. My Ematic AT102 puts the other brand to shame. It is just what I wanted, and it looks like I will be getting a second box to replace the under performing other brand.
With Directv spatting with all of the networks over money, I needed a tuner that would work with my projector to bring in CBS so I could watch the NFL games. I set it up with a digital antenna and for around $50 Ive been able to get over the air channels. I did add a USB drive so I could record as well. This unit doesnt have a great interface but I was able to search for channels, put them in the order I wanted, delete the 30 home shopping channels I didnt, and can record shows for later playback. Its not as convenient as my DVR, I need to go into the guide and set up each show I want recorded which can only be done within 7 days of it occurring. In other words, I cant set up to record every showing of Survivor, its not that smart. I can go in, look at the guide for the next 7 days and select what I want to record one by one.I have to say that the picture quality was really impressive, its noticeably nicer than the picture I get through YouTube TV on my 4K fire stick. The remote is cheap and balky but it works as long as you point it directly at the box.You get what you pay for here, it does the specific thing I wanted it for and does it well. If I was cord cutting and this was going to be my primary way of watching tv I would want a nicer remote and a better user interface.
This converter is a awesome accessory. I had never tried using the optical out feature on any of my entertainment devices until now. This converter makes it so easy and has good sound delivery to your older stereo system. I have a 4K disc player and an older home stereo. The new 4K devices no longer have the RCA out jacks on the back and this solves that problem. I never knew these even existed until recently. I have purchased two of them for different locations. The only down side is that they need a USB power source of 1 amp. Your TV should have a USB port on back you can use. If not available, a cheap power charger for cell phones will work. Fantastic.
